A Remodelled Victorian Townhouse

A traditional Victorian townhouse has been transformed into a bohemian paradise for former fashion photographer Guy Hills.

When Hills and his family had the opportunity to buy the top levels of the house in which they already lived, they turned to architectural salvage and design firm Retrouvius to reunite the two halves of the London residence.

The result is a shabby-chic, sophisticated yet relaxed scheme that borrows from all sorts of interiors, including pieces from courtrooms, museum display cases, and even French hotel doors.

Creating a design that will never date, Retrouvius reclaimed the grand Victorian staircase (which had been boxed in) and installed sliding doors to save space. This space-saving has given the house the flexibility it needs to work around the family, who regularly host cocktail parties.

We think this is a great, bohemian backdrop for socialising, and the clever design encourages wear and tear to add interest to the overall scheme.
